Released on May 31st, Dorden: Falling for a Star follows the journey of an adventurous astronaut who discovers a hidden universe beneath the dense layers of Jupiter. Yet despite taking place among the stars, Dorden is not a story about space adventures or anything of the sort. It is about the greatest distance in the universe: the one that exists between two people.
Camila Vollger’s poetic style weaves a melancholic fable about isolation, longing, and discovery. Written in lyrical prose, the narrative stands out through its powerful use of contrasts: the solidity of confinement against the vastness and volatility of the unknown. This visual and emotional dynamic extends beyond the writing itself, shaping both the settings and the protagonists. On one side stands the grand castle and the “stone balcony” where Darla lives in isolation; on the other, the “vast emptiness of space” that Dorden crosses in search of adventure. For Camila, the relationship between the two is reflected in a deeply visual parallel:
Camila Vollger, author of Dorden
“It’s like the light from Darla’s window versus the glow of Dorden’s campfire. She’s inside; he’s outside. They’re closer than ever, and yet still far apart” explains the author. “Dorden is an adventurer constantly searching for a new spark that makes him feel alive, while Darla is a girl trapped within her own world who, through a breach in the clouds—which represent the mantle of fear cast by her father—discovers a universe she never knew existed. In other words, he searches for her, and she finds him: at one moment, through a gap in the clouds; later, through the foliage of a forest. Dorden sets out in search of something new, while she discovers something new by finding him. This dynamic sustains their relationship throughout the story: movement and revelation. Search and discovery.”
Within the novel, space—and even the planet that gives the book its backdrop—are not merely decorative scenery, but extensions of these emotions. Jupiter’s cloudy sky contains “breaches” that act as gateways to the unknown, while the “dense clouds” materialize the physical barrier created by the King’s grief and pain.
This connection between the cosmos and the characters’ inner lives becomes especially tangible in a passage where Camila draws on the laws of astrophysics to speak about love. In one chapter, the narrative explores the silence of the vacuum as a metaphor for what remains unspoken:
Blending the tone of classic fairy tales with science fiction, the novel brings readers closer to universal experiences of loss, growth, and self-discovery. With sentences that alternate between brisk storytelling and reflective meditations on time—such as the line, “Time passed, and the boy grew old, but the dream never lost its hold..”— Camila Vollger delivers a fluid, visual, and deeply emotional style of writing, crafted to resonate with readers who cherish great stories of love and self-discovery.
Dorden: Falling for a Star is now available worldwide on Amazon in both digital and print editions. Readers can choose between the convenience of the e-book and the immersive experience of the hardcover edition. Blending exclusive illustrations with the narrative, the physical volume was thoughtfully designed with a strong focus on reading comfort. Designed to support readers of all backgrounds, the book invites them to explore the world of Jupiter with the same sense of discovery and warmth that defines its story.
